Show #349 - Beatles in Cleveland Special

Jumpin' Joe commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Beatles show at Cleveland Municipal Stadium!
You'll hear songs from the bands that opened for The Beatles, along with every Beatles song performed on the night of August 14, 1966.
In between the songs, you'll hear Jumpin' Joe's 2007 interview with Jack Armstrong, the 20 year old DJ from WIXY 1260 who emceed the show that night, and eventually helped 10,000 kids get back in their seats after they rushed the stage.
Jack Armstrong had a hall of fame radio career, which started in his home state of North Carolina. Armstrong (real name John Charles Larsh) came to WIXY 1260 in May of 1966. He went to rival WKYC 1100 in January of 1967 and used the name "Big Jack" because WIXY 1260 had the name "Jack Armstrong" copyrighted. He resumed using the name Jack Armstrong when he went to Boston's WMEX in early 1968. From there he worked at radio stations in Toronto (CHUM), Hartford (WPOP), KTLK (Denver), WKBW (Buffalo), Pittsburgh (13Q), San Francisco (KFRC) and more before returning to his home state of North Carolina in the mid 1990s.
Sadly, Jack Armstrong died 7 months after this interview at the age of 62. However, Jack left us an incredible account of the conversations with The Beatles backstage and even on stage, which you'll hear in this special edition of Jumpin' Joe's Basement Show!
Original Broadcast: August 15, 2026
